For the second straight day, there were less than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases reported in Connecticut, with 937 confirmed positive infections out of 29,864 tests administered statewide.

The overall 3.14 percent positive infection rate is down from 3.77 percent the day before and more than 10 percent as recently as late last month.

There have now been 257,941 COVID-19 cases confirmed in Connecticut out of nearly 5.9 million tested statewide.

Twenty-eight new virus-related deaths were reported in the latest data, bringing the total to 7,185. Another 37 patients were discharged from Connecticut hospitals, leaving 837 COVID-19 patients still being treated for the virus.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont touted the state's COVID-19 vaccination program, which has rolled out the fourth-quickest in the country.

According to Lamont, there have been 358,019 first doses administered, with an additional 101,238 second doses for a total of 459,257, despite this week's nor'easter slowing the process down and forcing some schedule changes.

Lamont made note that 49 percent of Connecticut's population over the age of 75 who are eligible for the vaccine have received at least their first dose, with more on the way as the federal supply of the vaccine increases 17 percent next week, including a 5 percent increase in allocation for the state, and 12 percent more going directly to state pharmacies.

"We're anticipating that most of the 75 (plus) age group in Connecticut will have received the vaccine by mid-February," Lamont said. "Next, vaccine distribution will open up to the 65 (plus) age group, which we anticipate will happen around that time."

According to the Department of Health, the percentage of the population over the age of 75 to receive the vaccine in some of the state's largest communities:
